D. Afonso III, the fifth King of Portugal, born in Coimbra, 1210, also known as "the Bolognian".
Secure on the throne, Afonso III then proceeded to make war with the Muslim communities that still thrived in the south. In his reign the Algarve became part of the Portuguese kingdom, following the capture of my city, Faro, in 1249.

This town main attraction, located on the Madeira's Northern coast are, undoubtedly, these natural bathing pools stuck between gentle rocks of lava and filled by the tide.
The sea in this day was very agitated. The waves were hitting the rocks with violence, provoking a very refreshing, but also dangerous shower.

Seixal is a northern town of the north coast of Madeira. This small twon is characterised by its spectacular, verdant landscapes overlooking the deep blue sea. The beaches of this coast are usually composed by basalt pebbles smoothed by the sea. The sound generated by these pebbles, rolling by the action of the waves is quite impressive. We can also find dark sand beaches, artificial beaches and natural bathing pools.

Choupal National Heath is a national heath in Coimbra, Portugal. It is a short distance from the city downtown and runs alongside the Mondego River. The forest has trails for jogging, walking, cycling and horse-riding.

The New Cathedral was, originally, the church of the Jesuit College of Coimbra, established in the city in 1541.
