D. Afonso III, the fifth King of Portugal, born in Coimbra, 1210, also known as "the Bolognian".
Secure on the throne, Afonso III then proceeded to make war with the Muslim communities that still thrived in the south. In his reign the Algarve became part of the Portuguese kingdom, following the capture of my city, Faro, in 1249.
